Default Idle problem and car shuts off

Hey guys, im new here. I bought a 96 Civic ex Vtec three weeks ago. The idle has been getting progressively worse and now it cuts off after the engine warms up. When the engine is cold, it will crank and run great. After it warms up, the idle drops and it cuts off. It never idles high, it just drops. It runs fine on the interstate, but when I stop in traffic, it wants to die. Now, it dies and it wont start back up until it cools back down. It is getting fuel, the fuel pump works and the fuel filter is good.Im thinking it may be old gas clogging it, or a bad sensor, or the intake valve. Any ideas?? I need some help to diagnose the problem.

Hey Mike civ,
not sure if anyone replies or just mods brwosing here and there

I am guessing you are just guessing

trouble shoot?

I am guessing you are lost on the not starting until cool down
which is a bit dangerous if you stall and can not fire up.....

is it a manual tranny?

anyways, check the computer codes or something, and if it is stalling on idle and you are driving a poorly maintained or dying honda because you think they are bullet proof,
you might have to check your cluster for a sign you are going to stall and/or listen to engine and giver the gassss when she is dying so you do not stall out,,,

happens on my 4th gen civic, the irradic idle after crusing,
changed plugs, and it helped a bit
we are guessing fuel filter amoung a whole list of undid maintanace from the previous owner,
