AC was a dealer installed option. I think it was around 7-800 dollars option. Be sure to have a mechanic to check it out before you buy it. Also, the exhaust manifold near the primary O2 sensor have a tendency to crack.

Cool deal and thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to check that out.

talk them down to $3500-$4000. since its a dealer, don't make it seem like you really want the car. they need to sell the car. tell them you found another hx, similar mileage for $4000 or something like that, that you are checking out after this. not sure if that would help with bargaining. lol

Well, they're asking $4900 and when I called, they told me to mention them when I show up as they've got a "special $200 internet coupon". So without even showing up they're knocking $200 off the top. I'm taking $4500 in cash with me, but plan on telling them I've got $3500.

I also found a 1999 Civic Si...complete opposite end of the spectrum in my buying habit. The wife already has an SRT-4...so I don't really need something sporty. But I'm sure it'd be funner to drive than the HX. Asking price on the Si is $5977...would only consider if I could get em down to $4500.

Default HX Thoughts

Just bought an '01 two weeks ago for $4500 with 85K miles. The mileage is amazing. I got 47 and 48 mpg on my first two tanks. As for the potential costs associated with an O2 sensor I'm in you boat. Changing an O2 sensor is no big deal. My big project will be to add AC before next summer.

I Hx is not a very good Civic, well the D16Y5 motor anyways. There is very very little after market support for the Vtec-E motor. I have a 98 Hx 5spd has 174K on it. I just swap out my Y5 for a B18B1. Wow on the power difference. Yeah the price is way high, I paid $1000 for mine, has no prodlems and very thing work. Gets great MPG though.

although that SI is very tempting isn't it ;D
if you want more speed/agression and torque, SI it is. and definitely lower the price.

EX is thee best you can get. with SOHC VTEC. its similar to the SI, only its a D16Y8 not a B16.
