I'm getting a loud metalic ticking after I shut my car off... sounds like maybe metal contracting or expanding. Anyone else have this? How did you fix it?

 

tha tis prob just the heat leaving your engine I don't think its anythnig to worry about

If its just a mild ticking noise, I hear a lot of cars do that. I dont think it's a major cause for concern unless its abnormally loud

 

If it's a knocking tick then your engine has issues and I'd take that thing in for a tune up. If it's more of a metallic "ting" then that's just the heat escaping and it's all good. From your description it sounds like the latter so don't stress it.

 

if your engines off. it shouldnt be makeing any noises. but yeah, the exhaust makes ticking noises when you shut if off while verry hott.

 

its your cast iron exhaust manifold which is contracting and letting air pockets out... which give you the poping/cracking noise
