Default honda civic si Loud ticking noise

My 16 year old niece has a 2008 Honda civic si and hit a huge pot hole last weekend.

It started to leak oil, so she shut it off and had it towed to a mechanic.

The mechanic said the oil pan was cracked so he replaced it.

After he replaced the oil pan, he said there is a loud ticking noise?
He was not sure what the noise was but said it may go away???????

Is there any chance this mechanic did something wrong?
Is there a windage tray or oil pump tube in there that he may have knocked loose?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
The car is now back in the driveway because we did not trust the mechanic to find out what ticking is.

sounds like a Rod knock if it's loud.

^doesn't have to be a rod knock. Could be a pulley or the valve train or anything. We need a video with sound to diagnose further.

Default I think I know

My niece just brought the car by my house.
It is definitely valves tapping (or clicking from the injectors).

She also admitted that she did drive the car for about 3 or 4 miles after she hit the pothole.
Chances are she ran the car with little or no oil for a while.

Hoping an adjustment to the valves is all she needs and that she did not bend any valves.

The valves really won't be affected by driving without oil. The bearings will fail much sooner. Maybe though, if she never had the valves adjusted, the noise was there before just no one noticed it.
