manual transmission question rpm??
ya i thought about that originally but as you said its been done time and time again. all the information is out there with parts available so it wouldn't be a problem. the d16y8 has also been done and the alternate b16. i already have a y8 so i said wth lets go with that. i geuss maybe kind of like an old school build when the b16 and the d16 was hondas new 4cyl. plus im thinking maybe an na build just because its not done alot. if i flip and decide on boost id keep it under 300 and spend more effort on a nice clean setup. honestly stiffler im still up in the air a bit on engine and drivetrain. i want to be a little out of the "box" if possible so i have an end goal of a clean coupe that can still be driven around but with an old school feel i geuss if that makes any sense.
so ya constructive criticism is welcome if what im trying to accomplish isn't feasible. i already have the information i need to make the d16 better in either direction. the stock typical manual trans setup for the s40 and s20 dont fit my build unless i can change the final drive ratio. if i can do that without a ton of wasted time id like to go that route. if im going to have to waste a bunch of time sourcing parts or having custom stuff made then im going the wrong direction. i dont need to make a simple build difficult. so ya are all versions of the s20 the same with interchangeable parts? i can buy the 3.25 gear easily and i can get an s20 easily.
It's done by every broke kid who did not have money for boost or a swap. Slap an intake, header, exhaust, suspension on it and call it a day. I'm not ****ting on the idea; just saying.
If you flip and go turbo or swap, many of the parts I mentioned above would become useless. Figure out exactly what you want with the car first, then spend money. Determine your power goal if you want more power. The parts I mentioned above will not net you any power that you will feel. If the car does feel more powerful with those on it, you will quickly get used to it.
I'm sorry, but there is no such thing as out of the box when it comes to these cars. A clean coupe that can be daily driven is certainly not out of the box.
Good luck with the build.
Good luck with the build.
ya thats why i can only go with out of the box as possible pretty much everything has been done. about the only thing i haven't found on the web as far as builds go is someone taking an old civic like mine giving it a bit more power (160-250 range) and swapping gears so it can keep up with todays traffic without trying to blow itself up. its either building a max power car, track car, drag car, pure show car. most of the daily driven ones i look at just kept the automatic and stopped at bolt ons. that or they dont really need to do much highway which makes a stock manual transmission worth it for them. my intake was cheap ebay junk for noise. my overpriced headers i bought to swap out the ebay ones well what can i say there. ebay parts are crap and i dont trust them for any real length of time. i also dont trust pacesetter or dc sports due to past experience. so i just jumped to you pay for what you get. slapping some boltons and calling it an na build is definitely what you said lol and it annoys me. no im saying a real na build high compression internals blah blah. im not scrooge rich but 3k for a goautoworks garret turbo setup doesnt scare me. my problem is na or turbo the s40 and s20 are my transmission options and running 4k for 40 min straight doesn't sound conducive to either. so now that i know where id stand doing a manual swap due to my original question. now im basically looking for options to lower the gear ratio on the diff which will inturn lower my rpms. if thats not feasibly possible within reason then ill start looking at a full swap
Hello! I am just a newbie and I want to go into the world of drag racing. I run an all-out d15b turbo setup with stage 4 clutch but still stock tranny... any suggestions to what I should upgrade my tranny to before racing?? Thanks!!!
