The B16 is the most over-rated engine known. They dont produce much more TQ than a D16Z6 or Y8. I didnt even consider a B16 when doing my swap. In resonse to lilpooh21186's comment, you cant judge an entire platform by 1 situation, where there are 2 cars. even if it happens all the time. Maybe your buddies GSR is running crappy, because I know someone with a B16 in a del sol, and I take him in my coupe.

I think almost everyone with suitable knowledge on the topic would recommend a jdm gsr motor over a b16 type r motor (if those were the only two options)

the b16b head flows way better than the gsr head. the b16b head is the same cast as the b18c5 head, so it flows really well. it depends what you want to do with the engine. the only b16 i would take would be the b16b but if it was the gsr vs the b16b i would take the gsr. bigger block, more torque, andoil squirters which is great for boost the main reasons gsr is better. imo

Greddy_Civic: I think I mentioned that there are some reliable ls/vtec engines, but as I mentioned, they are the exception, not the norm. I think most people get only about a year on average from most of the people i've talked to. Maybe that's just cuz most of the people I've heard talk about them are the ones that things go wrong for, I'm just saying it will NOT be as reliable as a stock motor.
i wasnt ttelling you to do your research. i was saying do your research to Sprite to tell his f riend that a reliable ls/vtec is not cheap

the B18C type r, B16B type r, and B16A all use the same head with different hardware(cams, springs, etc, etc). Hands down the GSR is a better base platform for the money IMO and to who ever said a B16 is good for boost and the gsr is good for n/a do your research because stock B16 compression limits boost alot but in the end the GSR is better for boost because oil squirters and more displacement. You can take a bone stock GSR and add a set of Brian Crower cams and make over 200whp. Look at the B16 as a D16 that makes power untill 8000rpm. Same engine but reving it out further which does nothing but wear on internal parts in the end. The B16B is also a wimpy *** enging in the end.

dumbass:
"look at me I am jdm and make 185hp at 9500rpm"

Me:
"how often do you spend your day driving at 9500rpm"

Dumbass:
"umm not much at all"

Me:
"so what power do you make at the rpm you shift at most of the time"

Dumbass:
"umm 150"

Me:
" how much tq"

Dumbass:
"110 ft lbs"

Me:
"Ha ha ha"
