Just bought my first car yesterday and I'm so psyched about getting on the road (I've got my test in just over a month).

The car is a silver stock 1995 honda civic lsi (eg4) 1.5 with almost 100k on the clock, no major problems it needs new wipers, some rust and scratches and there is a rattling noise coming from the backbox which I've been told is something to do with the baffles or the things that support the exhaust.

Next thing is insurance lol, which is probable gonna be quite steep, from the quotes I have got so far I'm geussing about £3k +, so I've decided I'm going to try and buy what I would like for my car before the insurance eats up my apprentice wages lol.

I would really appreciate if someone could recommend some upgrades that would suit this car or performance upgrades, I don't really know much about cars yet but I'm doing my homework. I don't want anything too in-your-face or loud. All recommendations are welcome.

I'd start with a Factory Service Manual, a decent alarm, and some rust treatment.

Take a look at the timing belt and other maintenance items first. If any parts need replacement, try to upgrade. Get the rust taken care of soon.

You can make huge gains in performance by upgrading to good UHP tires and lightweight rims, adjustable coilovers and shocks, or 4-wheel slotted rotors and ceramic pads. Just ask for recommendations.

I'd also look into adjustable anti-swaybars, strut bars/braces, and whether or not your model has VTEC.
