Default noise

I have a metal to metal noise coming from the rear of my Civic. I checked the exhaust system and the gas tank mounting brackets. Both seem sound and intact. The noise is noticable when I hit bumps, driveway curbs, ans speed bumps. Could it be my shocks?

If your shocks are blown, and shot to hell they'll make a lot of noise, or it could just be a bushing like the other poster mentioned.

Have you tested them out?

Probably a very worn bushing somewhere in the suspension. Visually inspect your bushings for tears, deterioration, etc.

Can you reproduce the noise by pushing down hard on the trunk? If so, solicit help from a buddy to pinpoint the noise.

I have the same problem with my car in the cold as well. My guess is that it is the shocks. But as Ron said, get a friend to push on the trunk and listen to try and localize the noise.
