Huh? I did mean -30 for a prolongded periods of time of course. It was not a big deal for my farther's Russian made carburated Lada back in 80th, It was never an issue for my my 84' civic back in 90th... If you keep your ignition, battery and oil in a good shape, it is not a big deal even if you did not touch your car for several days - at least it was not for me when I lived in Moscow... It was a big deal for my diesel Galant though - I was never able to start the damn thing below -20.
diesels need block heaters in any kind of cold weather

Just put some synthetic oil in there and you should be fine. Let it warm up in the morning before you start moving and that would probobly be even better.

Not anymore, they come with em, but for the most part you can just let the glow plugs warm up, then start the motor and let it idle for awhile so it warms up real good.

Pete, I'm sorry, not below -20 celsius... The fuel got so thick it cant move. The heater for diesel usually includes fuel line heater mostly, the rest is optional.

Yeah, people do this all the time in Russia. The problem with this is that diesel fuel is the only lube for a fuel pump (not sure it’s a correct translation here) by design, so you are reducing its life and risking it being seized if you “overdose”…
