Poor AM Reception

RE: Poor AM Reception
AM radio has more static because of the way modern receivers are designed to allow for ease of tuning and not allowing for the full spectrum of audio contained in the broadcast.
That is why AM radio is typically used for news and talk radio since it requires less sound quality than music broadcasts.
AM radio can also travel much further than FM radio, so it still has many uses today, and is in no way "obsolete."
Interesting note, AM radio waves can travel much further at night than during the day due to atmospheric effects that occur after sunset, so stations often have to reduce broadcasting power or not broadcast at night.
