New Head Unit, FM Reception Sucks
Hi...I bought a JVC head-unit (to replace the factory one) and now the FM reception sucks. The '05 Civic has an in-glass antenna. Is there something that can be bought to improve the radio reception? Or is there a better make to buy? Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony...
Thanks,
Jason

Well, to be honet, I just bought it from Best Buy and had them do it. I would assume that they did as some stations come in OK, and some are fuzzy, particularly the station that I really like, so that sucks even more!
The guy at Best Buy (and at Al & Ed's Autosound) said that in-glass antennas aren't so good, so Honda builds something into the factory head-unit to improve the radio reception. So, basically, nothing can match the factory head unit in terms of reception performance. The guy from Al & Ed's said that Pioneer has some technology called "SuperTuner" that comes close to matching the factory performance. Has anyone else heard this?
A friend of mine, has a Pioneer HU (with "SuperTunerD) and he gets really good reception. He drives a 2002 Civic Coupe EX, it gets distorted when the rear defroster is on though.
Hope this helps

Thanks much - I have heard from a few people now good things about the Pioneer. Also, called a Honda dealership and they said that the factory units are made by Bose and Alpine, so either of those should work good also.
have always had pioneers with super tuners, and yes they get really good reception. But im still pretty sure they just didnt plug it in all the way, because the plug for the antenna is always too short.
