Default questions on my 2000 ex

First off I’m new to Hondas but i bought one because of a friend of mine has taught me a little bit about them, anyway this 2000 has a d15b block I’m pretty sure its suppose to have a d16y7? and has no vtec badges anywhere but when it hit 5500rpms it most definitely has a cam change, and the mpg is not where it needs to be the avg is between 18 and 23, sometimes it has a very low idle of like 450 rpm I’m sure I’ll have more questions later thanks in advance

supposed to be a d16y8, not sure why in the hell it would have a d15b in it. You should be getting 30-33mpg.

Look for a VTEC solenoid on the back of the head near the distributor, clearly your setup is not stock.

Idling too low or inconsistently is often dirt in the IACV. Also make sure the radiator is full (check in the radiator itself with the engine cold), as having air in the cooling system affects idle rpm.

Highway gas mileage should be solid in the 30's, but city mpg varies so much based on conditions and driving style that you can't tell much from it. The spark timing should be checked since if it's wrong it will really kill your mpg and performance.

finally got ahold of my buddy he said the timing was retarded and i advanced it and the mpg is much better, and it doesn't idle down anymore either, and it is a vtec d15b but looks completely stock would this have been somehow better than the d16y8?
