rust question

i plan to keep my 92 civic for a few years, wou ld it be ok to spray wd40 on the rusty parts of the body under the car??? or can this cause future problems?

It seems that WD-40 has a rust protection additive, so spray away!

I'd just save up some waste oil from my oil changes and spray the underneath of the car with it.

try a wax oil treatment .........wd40 will just wash off.
wax oil if the cars in solid shape will protect the car more, and its in the cars parts not on the outside to be washed off
on the outside, you would do body work under the car with a bichamin black stuff in cans its made to cover good metal not rust, once rust is there(serious rust)the only true cure is to cut it out usually rust is only seen once the damage is done.
