Default Shifting W/ an Automatic??

Alright, before i start...i am a complete "noob" to cars. I don't know jack about them. Anyhow, I have a Civic lx 07 automatic. Is it fine for me to drive and shift through 1,2,d3,D . I always drive in overdrive (D). BUT..Can i say.. be at a red light, be in 1, and gun it then go to 2, then d3, and D if i want. I did it and i went fast as ****! I shifted at 6000 properly, and it seemed to be fine. Is that ok? or am i ****ign up the transmission? please anyone wiht info, that would be great! thanks

don't do that anymore. seriously. your tranny won't last long AT ALL. you got an auto, so don't try to act "cool" and pretend your a manual. autos are not meant to be driven as manuals.

here's what google pulled up:

D=regular drive unless you have a circle around the D and then it can do overdrive also.
D1= is drive 1 which means your transmission can's shift out of first gear which if your going up a steep hill very steep is used for that.
D2= Transmission can't go higher than second gear again used for going up hills.
D3= Transmission goes to third gear only no overdrive though I wouldn't suggest using that gear for freeway driving or any driving by 50mph or over.
L1= should be the same as D1 only first gear
L2= should and is the same as D2 which only allows your transmission to go to second gear.
L3= is the same as D3 no overdrive just third gear.

as carlos mencia would say: "D da deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" don't ever drive like that lol there is no point. most automatics now a days will shift at redline if your foot is down

i'm standing with my previous statement: don't do it; you're prematurely wearing down your tranny. if you just mash the throttle while in D, you'll get the same results. also, this is somewhat unrelated, but don't do neutral drops either. 2-3 of those and your tranny is done.

wouldnt that be the same as shifting a slap stick but with a stock shifter? i didnt think it would mess it up to bad as long as u dont run it to death in each gear
