I heard it makes your car faster? Opinions?

 

You have a throttle body already (assuming your car runs) so im assuming your asking about getting a larger throttle body. Is the rest of your engine stock or have you upgraded anything else yet? Depending on what else youve done to your engine, a larger TB may have little to no effect.

A larger TB is not needed unless you are pushing a decent amount of air through. If you are planning on putting a larger TB on a stock car, you'll probably lose power. Trustdestruction covered it in another forum. He has the perfect way to put it. Something about air velocity etc... I just feel like SEARCHING.

 

Stu probably said something along the lines of a body of air (or any fluid for that matter) will flow faster through a small area than the same amount of air through a larger area.

Anyway, a larger throttle body will gain you nothing unless you're flowing more air, like if you're running forced induction or if you have a more aggressive cam and a better-flowing intake manifold (port/polishing the heads wouldn't hurt either). If you're mostly stock (ei, basic bolt-ons: intake, header, exhaust), a larger throttle body is more or less a waste of money (that is, unless you plan on opening up your engine's ability to flow air, and even then I'd just wait until I replaced the intake manifold; no use doing the same job twice).

 

Right, I was talking about velocity and flow capacity.

If you make it just a little bit bigger than stock on a stock engine, you might see some gains, but it will be extremely minimal and not worth it unless it's dirt cheap.
Making it too big will hurt your power.

I'm thinking about getting a stock 60mm TB off of a B-series, which would be relatively cheap on eBay. Something to consider.

 

So would my B18B1 TB make a bit of power on my D16 til I do the swap??

 

You will notice nothing.

 

i noticed a big difference when i took my little vx intake manifold off and replaced it with a
d16z6 intake manifold.
it will give your engine more of an aggresive/quickier response but there is a limit to big can effect the performance
which d16 motor do you have..?

 

I think he might mean getting a horizontal throttle body from an EX as opposed to the ****ty vertical one on an LX.
