This does not apply to the newer models correct? It looks like the DX LX and EX all have the same engine.

If you can get the SI, go for it. The SI has a much better motor since its a dohc vtec. Its got lots of potential and its still fast stock. If you cant find one for a decent price, get the next level down, an EX. The EX has a sohc vtec motor that is screaming for a turbo. Throw a turbo on it and you will blow away the stock SI's. The other trim levels like LX and DX have non vtec motors and if you want to make them fast you have to swap them with a better motor so unless your looking for a gas-saver-only civic then you dont want anything besides an EX or SI.

It depends on what you mean by "newer models". On the '99-'00, the LX, DX, and EX all have the same (D16) block, but the EX has a VTEC (Y8) head and a somewhat different intake/exhaust that yields slightly better power (around 127hp vs. 106hp)with slightly less economy. You can swap a VTEC (Y8 or Z6) head for the stocknon-VTEC (Y7) head on a LX/DX's D16 block though. This would roughlynet you the flywheel power of the EX with the lesser weight of an LX/DX, but the EX'stranny gearing may also be different.

I don't thinkany Civic is designed to be a 1/4 mile screamer though. FWD is probably the worst platform to build a dragster on, as the front wheels unweight and lose traction upon hard launches with high power and torque.In the rain this is even more pronounced. Torque-steer gets a little crazy with hi-po FWDs, and most CV halfshafts can't handle the shock loads that a sturdy RWD drivetrain can. If you build a Civic for too much power and torque, you'll have a heck of a time getting it to the ground during launch. Civics generallyseem to do much better in twisties, where roll-on power is better utilized by a high-revving FWD that can handle well.

I live in ontario, and all the Si's on the Trader have D series. Is it cause i live in Canada?!

civics are built to be ecomonically and not for power, this is why more people buy "normal" civics. they are reliable and affordable, they are not looking for power.
