I posted this up in another forum area as well...didnt know if it was best here or there...so sorry if ur reading it twice
Hey Everyone,
Im new to the Honda scene but am amazingly in love with everything Honda.
I still dont have my honda but I will hopefully get it in the next 6 months. I have a lot of plans for when I get my babyand am going to use the next 6 months to learn as much as I can so that I can be able to do a lot of the work myself.
I was just wondering you guys opinion....I am currently interested in gettin a 96-99 Honda Civic EX, I really do not want to keep the D16Y8 engine especially since its a SOHC. I was thinking of getting a B18C engine and swapping it...Do you guys think that it would be better to buy the EX and keep the D16 or should I go with the swap...If I do swap should I worry about getting a car that has a high number of mileages (btw i would still get the 96-99 EX)
Thanks for the help

99-00 si came with a dohc b16a2. save alot of time and money and get the 99-00 si assuming you can find one
very good platform to start from. the motor can easily handle boost and bolt-ons to be quite the street machine without having to crack open the motor

What exactly is your goal, what power range do you want, and how much are you able to spend?
If the engine you get whether its d16 or b16, you can turbo it. You can safely boost stock internals to double the amount of power it puts out stock. It is cheaper by comparison to swaping and the power associated.
If you want to swap I would just look for a civic shell. Then put in a b18c IMO. The price for a GSR engine is usually $4000 including tranny and LSD with less than 50k miles. Or you can find used ones for cheaper on various forums like hondaswap, but I see that as a gamble cause you don't know the condition and how hard it's been pushed.
This all depends on the amount your able to spend, and if you need this car as a daily driver not hanging around in your garage waiting for parts.

I really have no specific goal in mind...Im really looking get a civic that can be used for daily commute and also hold itself down on the track...ok maybe this is my goal lol
The power range I was looking for was somewhere in between 220-280 a huge range but as I said I am new to the scene so dont really know what I can get....Im also scared that I wont be able to prep the engine enough to assure it can handle the turbo...
Currently my range is max about 8,000-9,000 but I dont have the car as of yet so that I lose a large amount of money just getting the car...
Ive also tried lookin for the SI but they are extremly hard to find and I think I can do more with the money I would spend on the SI instead of placing it in an EX
