Default Towing with a Civic

I have an '06 LX automatic trans. and wondered if it's possible to tow an 8' tent trailer - empty weight 990 lb.

I'm not 100% sure but I'd say that's probably just over the limit you'd want to tow with that car. Just think of loading your car with 4 200lb people plus yourself. The car will likely struggle to get going even on a flat road, let alone a hill. Also braking distance increases with more weight. Suspension will sag under the load as well. I also don't know how much load the subframe on the civic can handle(I imagine your trailer hitch is bolted to the subframe). Even if the subframe and hitch can handle it, just seems unsafe to tow that much as the engine isn't powerful enough, the brakes aren't strong enough, and the rear suspension might droop causing handling issues.

I'm only assuming. My buddy has a 98ex that he tow's an F125 Shifter Kart on a small trailer with all of his racing gear. All together it probably weights in the ballpark of 600-650lbs including him driving. He says it can be a bit hairy at times but for about a year or so he hasn't had any issues. He also has upgraded suspension and brakes which help things. Yes he has less power than you but also the weight being towed is less.

I prob. wouldn't tow anything from a Civic. Not recommended and the weight your talking is way too much. Don't risk it man.

Yeah man i wouldnt wanna risk it.
thats like ALMOST half of your car's weight..(ALMOST... lol)
your car weights around ~2600 lbs
And with a automatic transmision i would think that towing something would be even more stressful than in a manual tranny.
But thats just wat i think.

IMO I wouldnt risk it.
