My car is starting to sound like a diesel and know my valves need to be adjusted as they never have been since I put the motor in my car about 15k ago. (D16y8).

Would this be something that I could do (with correct tools)?

Or if I must take it into a shop what would this run?

You can do a valve job yourself; however, first check the ignition timing with a timing gun.

 

Thanks RonJ for the help, you wouldnt happen to have a writeup on how to check the timing would you? I have a timing gun at home but have never used it before and will check timing tonight (I am taking the civic on a 450 mile trip thursday). I want to make sure all kinks are out before the drive.

BTW: The idle problem was the throttle body the whole time, it was overchoking the motor and causing it to die, all tests worked fine after it was replaced. TPS reads fine now too.
