basically its a trim level of the car
DX being base trim (bare minimum), LX being mid level(some options), EX being top of the line (fully loaded with options) for regular civics
SI is above the EX performance wise, and SiR higher than that, including alterations to suspension and chasis with performance and handling in mind
SiR is no longer used, and was available in 5th and 6th gens, and was a non-us option only (I think US emissions prevented them from being streetable)
HX was a 6th and 7th gen coupe option that provided better fuel economy while maintaining some of the LX/EX power abilities, using a VTEC-E engine
VX was a 5th gen hatchback designation for the HX VTEC-E engine, again high fuel efficiency
