I have been kickin around the idea of buyin a brand new car, and i was just curious what voids manufacters warrentys, like mods, or restrictions?

 

depends on the manufacturer. many exhaust mods and induction mods void warranties. appearance and wheels (if they're a reasonable size and correct fitment) some suspension changes void warranties.

Your warranty is void if the modification caused or could have caused the failure. Like if you installed a turbo and blew your motor, the warranty is void. But if you installed a suspension mod and your piston rings got fried, the warranty would not be void since a suspension mod cannot cause your piston rings to get fried. Some manufactures are really **** about thier warranties, like Mitsubishi with the Evo. It also depends on the dealership. Some dealers will let things slide and some won't.

 

mazdaspeed3 comes factory turboed i was just curious cause ive heard from some one that exhuast mods from the cat back are non voiding, and i know that jeeps will allow up to a 3" lift, Magnum Moss act i think is what its called.

AgentofDarkness is right. The law is you can modify anything you want, and the warranty on the rest of the car is still in effect. Unless the modification can be shown to have caused a failure of the part you're trying to get replaced under warranty.

A lot depends on the dealer's discretion. For example if the car appears to have been extensively prepared for racing, they could say that you were racing it and then the warranty would be void due to "abusive driving."
