I have an 01 EX and my engine part as pictured in the green boxhas some patches of rust...[:@]



1 - What is this part called ?
2 - Where is the best place to get another one in new shape ? (From an online store new? - or would junk yards sell them seperatly?)
3 - Orshould Iremove it and try to sand off as much of the rust as possible -(Is iteasy/safe to remove, just unscrew it?)

thats the exhaust manifold heat shield. their prone to rusting, no big deal other than looking bad. if u want to keep the same color(or different like black), take it off, sand, primer and paint it. its safe to remove, just make sure the engine has cooled down(cooled to the touch) and its just a few little bolts to get it off.

 

Mine is completely rusted through. It even rattles when I drive but I haven't had the chance to try and take it off.[:'(]

Can you please recommend special paint- Is itjust rattle-can paint for high-heat which Walmart of HomeDepot would carry ? Is there a certain brand of paint preferable ?

 

Mine isn't that bad, but this spring I plan on removing it and painting it, along with the valve cover. I at least want to make my engine bay look good.
