If you feel that it isn't worth the money that you want to invest into it, just save up and drive it in the meantime. Then just buy a newer car when you have more money.

swap a new moter. That way you save money and get good performance.
For a couple of years if it's rusted. Not worth the effort and money IMO...
good point misha, i don't have much experience with that since i live in austin, texas
