Honestly, I dont think dash kits are rice or dated if you spend good money and get a quality kit. I'd kinda like to get a carbon kit for my EK but dunno if I really wanna drop $150 on it...

I have a 10" sub in the trunk, component speakers/tweeters up front, and some cheaper 6x9's in the back, powered by 5 channel Alpine amp and a Double DIN head unit. I love it.

Dash kits could look nice, if done in moderation and done correctly. Many people don't know when to stop though. I would be more inclined to suggest re-wrapping the door panels, center console, and the headliner for some interior changes if anything along those lines.
