4th gen DOHC ZC boost build eg hatch
I have had this motor for a while, and put quite a bit of time into it. heres some pictures of what I have done on it since then untill now.
my friend bought this motor 2 years ago for his '00 coupe, and didnt have the proper computer for it, so he bought a y8. the motor sat in the garage for a year and a half-ish now and told me a while ago i could take it for 100, i thot about it, and passed on it. Then he called me a month ago and said 50 bucks and all the miscalanious crap and its mine or its going to the scrapper as he needed room for a car hoist in his shop.
shampooing it down
spare dx hydro trans
my friend was bit of a redneck, he put used dump truck oil in the motor for the few weeks had it in the car
timing belt was frayed and splitting, he took a lighter to the fibers...
taking the oil filter off it collapsed, i hate fram!! lol
that oil was reaallly black
temp sensor wires broke off when i was loosening the temp sensor from the head
all the pics i took so far
started gasket matching the exhaust ports
got the intake side pretty much done, just have to pull the valves and finish there
gotta pickup a gasket to finish the manifold
got the crankshaft nut off and my friend who gave me the motor started tapping it with a hammer..bent the pulley inwards then pushed it and it broke off lol. oh well, i had wanted to buy a lighter pulley anyways...
showed him the underneath of the belt and he said he would still run it lmao...
a friend of mine gave me his wideband he had sitting in his shop because he couldnt mount it in his civic.... lol
pulled the valves out
cleaned the head in a solvent tank
stopped by my friends to look for the distributor, i finaly found it outside in a bucket that was full of water and had froze..and found a spare dizzy..
picked my pistons up today!!
moaarr piston ****!!
pretty much done the intake ports, just have to finish the bowls
]this is how they turned out!
kind of dark to get a close up
picked up scat rods today, brand new for $250.
these arent exactly beautiful, but theyre not too bad looking. cant complain for $50. deffinately have been cutting back cost on the past few parts ive got.
well ive got a couple exhaust valves that are clean
others, not so much.
all the intake valves look like this
heres a pic of the cams, a little lobe wear.
intake
exhaust
Finished polishing the exhaust ports. Started with 100 and continued with, 150, 220, 320, 400,600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, and finished with 2500 grits.
couldnt get any good pictures last night but heres a couple
finaly got some better pictures of the exhaust ports
cleaned up and polished the cumbustion chamber a little bit
got some pictures of the block after staring to clean it up
getting polished in some spots
]
got the valves today!!
they were wrapped up real nice and shipped priority! thanks again, ZCHONDACRX91!
geoff called me tuesday at 630 pm told me he jjust finished my cams and i said i would pick them up wednesday. i called him wednesday on my way there andi asked how much i owed him. i was expecting to pay what it says online plus tax, he told me he gave me a discount and to wait a second while he calculates the tax. so i went to the bank to grab that amount, and when i arrived he said he knocked the price down even more!!!!! geoff is a great guy! gave me a few stickers and some hats aswell, and wants me to stop by when i get the zc dropped in and have the cams all dialed in!
my build thread on HT got featured!
started prepping the vc for paint
today i finished porting the bowls, blended the valve seat with the bowls and opened them up ever so slightly.
was gonna get a friend to help me with the guides and valve grinds but hes a little busy building a wicked h/f motor..dropped the head back off at the machine shop with the oversized valves for new exhaust guides/seals and and their "performance" valve grind. will be done tomorrow afternoon they say. $200 for valve grind 9 bucks a guide installed. so roughly another $300.
block is notched
girdle is notched
almost stripped alll the paint on the vc
i ordered a water pump from honda parts unlimited, got a new ex. valve from thmotorsports, those should be here around the time my intake manifold gasket gets in.
the machine shop put shorter valve guides than the stock ones that were in there IIRC.
the valve seats look really nice, and they cleaned the valves, they look brand new! i'll take pictures and post soon!
heres some pictures of the head with valves, bowls and ports. when pulling a valve from both intake and exhaust, now i almost wish i had gotten new intake valve guides, even though they are in spec. the exhaust guides are so snug, and the machine shop cut them down nicely.
more pictures of the notched block
got the springs in
friend of mine was porting my oil pump put a whole in it.
went to a shop to get my oil pump welded today. only charged me 10 bucks cash.
cleaned and assembled the oil pump and cleaned all the shavings from the block.
heres pictures of the ports and manifold from the other day.
started with this
then
heres the bent valve
rounded the edges on the girdle
started assembling the block today. I decided to just use that oil ring that had a chip on the end on the most bottom. i filed it down so it was smooth. this time i got all the pistons in real easy.
now im still waiting on parts to arrive.
some more parts arrived today
.
waiting on the hondata intake manifold gasket, and i believe that is the last part i am waiting on.
block is all assembled. going to check the p2v clearances next.
16 and 18 degree marks I filed in on the d16y series crank pulley
