Default from a non vtech to convert to vtech

Hi to everyone first timer posting to a group, but question?? I am undecided on what to do. I have a 2004 Honda civic with 185000mil. On it and it's leaking oil and **** is just braking down on it am planning to spend the money on fixing this issues but at the same time am looking to get a new engine from eBay. So I been searching for a use engine but I see alot of vtech that come with transmission and the harness with ecu it's this a complicated switch from a non vtech to a vtech please some one help before. I buy it and I **** up it's around the same on fixing the issues or buying a new engine with transmissions that I have almost 190000 mil on it thanks

I'd be blown away if this was never answered or covered somewhere in the past.

the vtec on the 01-05 aren't the same as the older civics its manly for mpg. but all you would need is the engine and corresponding ECU. also the exhaust is slightly different on the DX,LX and EX.
