Default 98 dx hatch exhaust problem

I just ordered a KYO cat-back for my 98 dx hatch. I was stoked when i took it out of the box, it looked sick, so i started taking my old exhaust out, once i had the old one out and laid it all out on the ground i realized that the new one is about 18 inches too short? is this because my cat is located where most headeres would be? can i just buy some headers and a test pipe and make it work? thanks

I had the same problem w/ my 98 HX. Because the cat is located in the header, you'll have to fill that 18" gap. You can either use a test pipe or a high-flow cat (I'd use a test pipe since you've already got a cat in your header). Ideally, however, you should replace your header, put in a high-flow cat, and then install your new cat-back..

or you could just remove the cat and use a test pipe and or some other piping and get an adapter and weld it all together.

illegal, and it won't give you anymore of a horsepower gain over a highflow cat, which is legal

To remove the cat, he'll have to replace the header. It's all one piece (on certain models)...

you need a new header and a test pipe. i got mine on ebay they work great and look good too. i instelled mine and went to a local muffler shop, had theem cut off the ends of the test pipe and weld it onto a universal cataletic converter but for sure its all or nothing i have a 97 four door dx i went thru this and beleve my its all or nothing 100% oh i guess you could have a muffler shop rig it up
