Whats the brand of the other short ram intake? If its a cheap no-name then go with the K&N filter. But if its a decent brand then there isnt a big diff. between that and the K&N.

It look like that intake come with a foam filter which is more hi-flow than your typical gauzed filter. Which also mean it will suck in more dirt than gauzed filter.

okay i know im a newbie to this forum but that first intake is CRAP. for me in my 97 civic my first intake was a BOMZ racing SRI. it kicked *** until it was time to get my smog check. I needed something that was CARB exempt. i dont know if you live in cali or what but if you do i suggest you go with an AEM SRI its a lot more expensive but its carb exemptand what i have which is hella better especially because i needed my smog check. but if your not due for a smog check go with the cheap one. dont spend 30 some odd dollars for something your gonna have to replace in a little while.

the good thing about a k&n filter you can clean it so you don't have to replace it

Its really up to you. If you live in a place where dirt and a bunch small particle flies around then I would get a gauzed one.
