Default catalytic converter

i was wondering a few things:

first of all i have a 99 civic ex or lx and i have needed a cat for over a year, the hold-up is the 700 estimate for a new part whifch midas claims is so expensive due to to it being part of the exhaust manifold as one piece? so ive been lookin for a cheaper alternative which ive think ive found in a high flow cat on ebay for 98,99, 00 years... which is only like 10 bucks.

my question is will it fit?

do i need a new exhause manifold or is that boloney?

can i do it myself?

and lastly since its been needed for so long will i need a new oxygen sensor? the guy at the oilchange place iindicated that the car is running really rich and he recommended a fuel servicing for 69.99 to clean out the pipe going to the air filter....

most importantly will i pass emissions?

anyone know what the hell im talking about?

heres the part i would like to get

thanks!!!!

You are going to have to find out if you have an EX or an LX. The LX has the cat right next to the exhaust maniold. I think that $700 is way too much especially since after about 2 min of looking i found the manifold you need for $120. It shouldn't be too hard to install, there are a couple of bolts that hold the manifold onto the cylinder head and a 2 that attach the manifold to the rest of the exhaust. You could do it yourself, but the bolts might be rusted. This cat is $120 shipped on Ebay. You could prolly look around the internet and find other cats for sale.

As stated, you really need to find out wether it's and ex or lx.

Be weary of this "fuel servicing". I'm not sure what the guy was talking about, but if it's running rich, I would determine if it's the oxygen sensor... nothing besides replacing it will help. I would suspect that's your problem and that the salesman was full of it.

pick up a magnaflow hi-flow weld-in. get a mech to cut the old cat out and weld in a new one in place.

its an lx... but it doesn't look like the cat is next to the manifold.... its under the manifold and is installed vertically, but this magnaflow hi-flow would work but i need someone who can weld? im looking for the best solution... thanks guys for the heads up! maybe the manifold/cat combo is the way to go...
