Default D17 Header and Catalytic Converter Q.

Would it be worth it (would I make extra power) if I removed the stock header which holds the stock catalytic converter and replace it with a performance header and put a Hi-Flow cat. on down the line on the exhaust some where?

YES, extra power you would make. Get a DC header, and a high flow cat, also, I would recommend getting a cat back for the complete package. You would definetily notice a good gain.

DC does not make one for the D17. I found a used nickle plate Kamikaze header for $150.00. I already have an AEM V2 and Magnaflow Cat-back and just thought a header and high flow cat would improve my power. Not much you can do with a D17. Wish I could find someone who makes a race cam for it.

Thanks,
Jeff

definitely do anything you can to improve the cars air flow. i also found stainless steel headers with downpipe and high flow cat on ebay for a reasonable price.

You're an LX huh? Dont waste your money on it... save save save and do the k series swap. I am not wasting money on the engine anymore, I'm saving up for the k24 and k20 head

Buy the complete exhaust system for an EX of the same year. Both are D series blocks so the header will fit onto the block just fine. The only difference in the DX vs EX catback is the length and bends. If you get a header, high-flow cat, and catback exhaut for the EX of the same year, eveyrthing will match up perfect and you get all the performance gains, plus you stay legal with the cat. I put an EX header on my DX and then had to get a cat welded into mine. If i had to do it again i'd take the route your going. Good luck
