catalytic converter question
same thing happened to me...i was driving down the road and part of it fell off and was scrapeing on the highway. So I pulled over and yanked it off. I haven't had any problems so far that was about a year ago, but I would like to know too if the shields really important.
no they really arent important. I mean yeah its always better to protect your car from the exhaust heat, but if you take them off your car isnt goign to break down or nothing .I took them off my exhaust too because they were rattling and havent had a problem
true, what engine do you got? If you have a d16y7, the converter is right in the enigne bay and that isnt a worry. Even withthe other heat shields, its usually not a problem anyway though
heat shields are worthless. lol.
automanufacturers put them under neath your car because, like duh, catalytic converters get hot because its their job to remove excess chemicals from your car exhausts. that causes heat because its a chemical process.
automanufacturers put the heat shield there as a precautionary measure to prevent excess heat from rising upwards into the cabin.
honda heat shields are the cheapest in the business. seriously.
honda and acura has a history or putting up technical service bulletins about rattling or faulty heat shields.
mine was rusted away when i bought my car last summer. I looked on team-integra and sure enough, acura had a TSB for it.
most of the doods said just rip it off and that's what i did.
it was a pain in the *** though. you got off lucky, because it just fell off. lol.

Heat shield are also there to help warm up converter in cold weather which start the reaction sooner. Maybe also help exhaust flow faster since it keep it warm..
Same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. and Im just now looking at replacing it lol. No problems at all. I just hate the rattle from thecorners still stuck on the cat.
haha i've taken 3 of them off my car (now they are gone due to catback anyway)
it would also seem like they're only there becasue of some sort of regulation with producing a car or something
