rusted out muffler
the muffler on my 97 coupe has rusted out and the tail pipe is barly hanging on, anyway so i took it to a shop they said I need a new gasket, muffler, and intermediate pipe and gave me a price of a little under $400 dollars. If im going to be spending that type of money I'm considering just buying an after market exhaust system. I found a Greddy evolution system for $600 dollars but I'm worried about my civic sounding too ricer... any advice??

RE: rusted out muffler
evo doesnt sound ricey at all. It is louder than the SP exhausts by greddy, but if you want to be a little louder than go for it. The Evo was my second choice but since I wanted something a little quieter for cruising I went with the Sp2

RE: rusted out muffler
That system from whatever muffler shop will not likely last more than a year or two. Every honda I've owned had an OEM system last 100,000 miles, then each replacement thereafter would only last 15,000 miles. Do what I'm doing. Buy the muffler, finisher pipe, and hardware from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and buy the B pipe from your dealer. Spend a day bolting it up. No welding required.

I ended up going to a meineke and got them to put another stock exhuast system in for $290 it was the best price I could find. But im considering replacing the stock muffler to get a little more sound out of my exhaust. You guys think thats a good idea? If so any suggestions for mufflers?

RE: rusted out muffler
universal Apex-i WS2 muffler
you'll have to take it to an exhaust shop to get hangers welded on and the muffler welded to the exhaust pipe.
