short ram vs cold air intakes for first engine mod(98 dx)
i am going to have a 98' dx. i am looking at engine mods and the intakes are either cold air or short ram, i heard the short ram is safer unless you get a water bypass cold air intake. what is thedeal

If you got the extra loot get the AEM v2 ($3xx). If not just get an sri (short ram intake). If you put a by pass valve on a cold air intake it cancels out the little extra gains it has over the short ram. Also you will have more throttle response with a short ram. I recommend name brand ones for perfect fit and durability.

Short ram - throttle response, safer daily driving if you live in a wet area, but sucks hot air.
cold air - slightly increased power, danger of hydrolock, sucks cold air.
It's up to you. I had a cold air on my car for 2 years, I took a sawzall to it and now it's a short ram for my piece of mind. The throttle response is slightly better on my "it feels as such" meter.
Either way, ebay setups are the way to go.
