Default 99 ex type-r grille help

i recently bought a mesh type-r grille for my 1999 ex coupe. after taking off my bumper and removing the stock grille i attempted to put the new grille on but the top piece of the grille does not even reach the factory holes on the car, so i cant screw it on.
has anyone else had this problem with this product? (i hear its common) or does anyone have any ideas of how i can make this work?
thanks

Pictures of how far off the holes are? Does it mount onto your bumper like the OEM did?

You are 100% certain that you ordered and received a grill for a 99-00 Civic, and not a 96-98, correct?

I didn't really have any issues with my $20 eBay grill.

I had a very similar problem when I had my type R grill. It took about 10 minutes of messing with to get the holes on top to line up, but eventually it fit good. might wanna make sure that the little tab/lips whatever you wanna call them on the sides that come out from the bumper are pressed fully into the grill trim so that it sits as flush as possible. donno how to better describe it.
