Default Can someone answer these please?

My 92 Si hatchback has some rust around the wheel fender area, not that much maybe 8 square inches total. How much do you think it would cost to get it fixed? am I looking at 1000's here, or should I just buy a new fender and get it painted?

Also, how much am I going to have to spend to get my hatchback painted black? Ballpark, 2k?

well it would most likely be cheaper to get the fender replaced.. and if you were plannin on paintin the car it owuld work out perfect... and as for the price of painting.. it depends on if you wanna do the work or not.. and what kind of paint you wanna use.. but i'll say if you were gonna paint yourself with acrylic black you would not be too bad for price.. probly 5 hundred ish.. clear coat is what is expensive but with acrylic you can get away with out it

Heres the rust. As for the painting, the car is black, and I just want the same black colour, i would have it done at a shop. There is sun damage on the roof to the point where it has white spots, but I guess Ill just call around.

surface rust is easy fix. just gotta make sure that the rust is completly out or else it can keep on showing up. which can be a bitch if u have a new paint job. either fix it urself or get someone u trust that wont cut any corners on it.

my mom got her 92 accord's rear fender painted last year and they supposingly fixed hte surface rust that had barely started. they didnt do much of a good job, here we are 10 month later and its showing up again.

when it comes to rust, i raither fix myself, cuz if its comes back, i can only be mad at myself and not the shop.

Your budget was 1000k for that lil rust spot o.0, wow you should see how much body work i did to my old prelude and only cost me 100$ in materials. anywayz you could try doing it yourself, if your not up for that, get a new fender at a scrap yard or after market.

Sand the hell out of it with 40grit, until you see steel (shiney steel then use 80grit to feather alittle bit, and go up to like 120grit to feather some more, onces you did that, get putty bondo, the baby blue type with the blue hardener, NOT THE RED ONE!, and mix it well to your liking the apply to fill dont ever apply to be as smooth as possible, thats what sandings for, after you do that just sand that blue bondo down with a 80grit or 120grit so its roughly smooth then use 500grit, apply scratch filler (Red thin bondo) and sand with 500, then wet sand with, 600-800, then apply, grey primer, nice light coats, wet sand again, then apply your paint.

KEY TO THIS ALL! is be patient, and wait for drying time.

you can't just "bolt" a new rear quarter panel on a car like everyone keeps saying, it must be cut and replaced if the rust is deep enough, from the pics, it only looks minor.
