yup, remove the old cluster and the new cluster will plug right in. The DX cluster has a tach wire behind the engine temp. gauge, it just doesn't get used because the DX cluster doesn't have a tach. Any 96-00 cluster is interchangable.

i've done the same thing, you can find gauge clusters on ebay or try craigslist.com they go for about $100. Also keep in mind that the odometer will read whatever the new gauges say so keep that in mind when shopping around.

DOESNT HAVE TO!!!!!!!!!

you can kep your speedometer! simply remove the front face from the cluster, the clear bezel and the black bezel as well, then there is 4 philips screws BEHIND THE CLUSTER on the circuit board bath right behind the gauge. simply remove those screws and the speedo gauge will come right out of the front and simply screw it back together and pop all the bezels back on. VERY SIMPLE!!!!

this way you keep your milage TRUE!!!!!

JUST DO NOT REMOVE THOSE SMALL SCREWS ON THE FACE! AND DONT TRY to mess with the milage or the needles! they will break VERY EASILY!
