There are special hinges that you can buy. They replace the stock hinges with a different style that has air springs, hence the upward motion. Such kits tend to be really expensive.

I would recommend against the lambo door mod. They are so overdone and ricey that even lamborghinis don't have them anymore.

Yea, don't do it.
From what it sounds like, since you don't know where to get the lambo hinges, you'd probably send it to some shop to have them install everything and complete the job. And of course, once you found one, they'd charge you out the a$s.

yeah now-a-days the lambo doors are kinda ricey. There was a guy here in town that put a $2000 set on his sunfire and even after having it professionally installed he still had fitment issues. Plus his door was heavy, it was like opening a big garage door every time you wanted to get out. Im sure on a civic you would have a problem with door weight though. If you do get a set though have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing, i hear that its really hard to get it right.

expect to pay over 1000 dollars for your first kit.....then when parts start to fall off increase that money amount some more.

I'll pipe in as I had a kit on my car...

...I bought a non-cheapo-ebay kit. I loved it, it didn't break, I still would like it on my car, but in winter it's a drag.
(Wisconsin + Snow + Lambo doors = no go) That's why they came off and why I'm selling it. If you like the lambo doors, do it.

Here's a link to a thread with DIY's and info on the kits in general: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_443538/tm.htm

Guys, some Lamborghini still have the vertical doors, just an f.y.i.
Also, he asked HOW to do it, not if he should, or what are your opinions on it. So, ease up.

Ya, this appears to be too complicated for my conventional civic sedan... Maybe I'll give up this dream for now...
Turbo is my next dream
