Use Krylon Fusion plastic paint.
It doesn't require ANY prep other than wiping the pieces clean first.
The paint will never flake, only scuff, but using a plastic clear coat will take care of that for the most part. I'm converting mine to black at the moment, with a little bit of white contrast to match my color scheme of my car. I can post some pictures if you'd like. But seriously, go find some of that paint, you can find it almost everywhere. I highly recommend that stuff. It almost looks like the pieces have come from the factory that way. Plus, the paint takes 15 minutes to dry in between coats.

you can also find regular automotive 'trim' paint at any local parts dealer. been using it for years on cars, does the same thing.

use a MATTE finish asd spray your final peice like a "clear coat"

my friend used it on his interior. its protects and eliminates gloss and shine with no-yellowing or anything WORKS GREAT! TRY IT
