Yes but spraying is only like 10% of the process. 90% is prepping and sanding.

dito.....
the way ive done it is IF the paint is in good condition just scuff the paint up with some 600grit sandpaper... once its all dull looking after wetsanding and drying it its fine.... no need to make HUGE scratches with any 100grit sandpaper if your just gonna sand it down again back smooth.... only time i will sand that much is if thiers body repair... or rust!

but like he said... painting is only 10% of how good it looks. if you dont have a good feel for imperfections and an eye for detail....
the primer may look good.... but if you see any small TINY imperfections the paint will magnify them by 100fold!!!!!!!!!
so if you TRULY want a show worthy paint job.... buy some cheap/quality paint... paint the car then look for all imperfections and fix them.... then do your final paint.

my advice if you want a good quality paint job is to go talk to some local auto body shops, it takes weeks to get cars ready to paint but only about an hour to paint it. And if you do a quality job you want to paint the door, hood, and trunk jams first, as well as the underside of the trunk and hood and the best way to get that to look good is to remove the interior panels and rubber that cover parts of the jams. If you dont have the right tools you will break some of the pieces, like the plugs for the holes (x-mas trees). Just go talk to some auto body people, i work auto body and it takes some getting used to and experience is the only real way to learn, you can read alot but when you try it there are cartain mathods that work or dont work for a lot of things, like sanding bondo.

i used aircraft remover to get all the paint off because the ***** who painted my car for me last time cant paint so if ileft his paint on there my paint would just as crappy. ohh i know it takes time it took meabout 40-50hours just to get all the paint off and sand it and i am still not done.i know where every imperfection in my car is. there is not many because i ordered 2 new fenders, hood, front and rear bumpers. only thing is there is a small ding above my right quarter glass and a dent on the left side below the molding. still have alot of body work to do. but i went ahead and primered it so it wouldnt rust because i need it to get to school.

well striping it down to the metal is not a good thing!!!!!!!
unless you repaint with some special sealers... i cannt remember what 2 types i used on my old 66impala when i striped it....

thats the main reason why peoples rust repairs dont last..... not sealed properly and not all rust removed. very common mistakes...

i personaly HATE body work.... very time consuming and all manual labor
