Replace Civic 96-98 heater control panel with 99-00 panel
I have a 1996 Honda Civic LX. Take a look at the Honda Civic 96-98 control panel (attached civic9698.jpg). It would be a bit tricky to install a touchscreen. Now take a look at the 99-00 control panel (attached civic9900.jpg). It's like Honda meant for a touchscreen to go there!
But... how hard would it be to convert the car to use the 99-00 control panel? I am thinking that I really want to go this route, because it would give it a completely OEM look.

RE: Replace Civic 96-98 heater control panel with 99-00 panel
i think i read a post on here that said that the 98 is a different system than the 99 cause the 98 has the thing that u move across to change the heat/cool and the 99 uses a nobe that is more electronic.....

After doing some more research, it looks like you are completely right. The 96-98 air mix control uses a cable that is mechanically connected to the heating unit / whatever it's called. For the 99-00, they now use a motor that is directly attached to the outside of this unit. I wonder if the cable could easily be replaced with the motor, and at what cost.
Also the blower motor works a little differently - the 96-98 fan speed controller went thru a block of resistors which then controlled the motor. With the 99-00, they use a "power transistor" and a "blower motor high relay." So I guess I have to acquire those two parts as well.

Who needs comfort? There's a thing called Texas/Florida humidity and heat. At which point the center vent is your best friend... anything that impairs it would have to go. It seems like a flipout would impair visiblity as well....
I'm going to try to find a junkyard that's got a 99-00 civic for me to grab some parts from. I think I figured out what I need:
1. Front climate control panel.
2. Blower fan high relay
3. Power transistor (replaces the resistor block currently in the blower)
4. Air mix motor
5. Vent duct
