As far as I know rust is oxidation. Block off oxygen and it doesn't happen. But I don't know if it will completely stop it. And I failed chemistry so don't kill me if I'm wrong on it

ugh, my baby is rusting as well, ive noticed little rust spots showing up all over the place...ah well, gives me an excuse to repaint and touch up the whole thing
