I have a question. Will I have to replace a gasket so that I get a good seal when i put the valve cover back on. Someone mentioned it at Autozone and I thought since noone has said anything I wouldn't need one.

You got a Pepboys where you're located? Any parts store should have em, hell it's a Civic we're talkin about.

Yes, it should be in the DIY to replace the gasket.

Not sure how much, but I wouldn't think they're that much. Anything under $20 would be well worth it. And yes, they shoulda replaced theirs, maybe (no, hopefully), they just forgot to mention it.

You only have to replace that gasket if its detiriorated. It's a piece of rubber...although I used some copper gasket maker on the side just to be safe.

So I guess I won't buy one and only go out and get one if it is in bad shape. Sound like a plan? Also the only clear coat I could find that was hi-temp had ceramic written on it. Should I use it or get a different kind.

Bad news! You'll wish you would have replaced it with a new gasket, especially for the price.

It's a valve cover gasket...it's rubber, and it'll only leak in two cases: 1). Its detiriorated, 2). You're an a$$ and didn't tighten the bolts to the correct torque or tightened the bolts not in a criss-cross pattern...
