Dang I just bought platinum Turtle car wax. I hear its pretty good so ill give it a try and the dupont next time if this is no good.

Turtle wax is generally good.

I just realized there's a detailing section, and also that I've never even been in that part of the forum. If a mod wants to move this, be my guest

 

Ive noticed that a good marine wax does the trick. Since the wax is designed to withstand extrem hunidity , moisture, and salt water & air.

 

To wax a car the correct way you must first remove everything from the finish.

I suggest you use a mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. (the bottle and alcohol will cost less then 3 bucks). As you spritz this on the car and wipe it off you will see the old wax set up like grease. Keep spraying and wipping. You will use 5-6 Towells (more on those latter).

Once you have all the old wax off, it's time to attack the bugs/tar. Many options on the mkt that do this, Imo wd40 does the job as well as any of them. Once the bug/tar is all off, do a real quick re-spritz with the alcohol.

Now use a clay bar. Take your time....... follow the simple instructions. Don't rush. This isn't a race. Only use a small bit of clay at one time. I use a piece about the size of a dice, that is flattened out to the size of a qtr. When the clay gets a piece of grit in it, re kneed, and continue on. Once the clay is dirty, throw away and break off another piece. Don't skimp on the clay. A whole kit with everything you need is 10-12 bucks.

Ok now we have a clean pallet.

Many many options out there, from 5 stage zaino, to plain warm water.

I myself use nxt. it's cheap , easy, and does a great job. Down side......... it doesn't last long. Oh well.......

Remember unless you are using a true wax (which few do anymore) it does no good to put on more then 2 coats. You are simply wasting product and time.

Also, when putting on nxt or any product for that matter, remember.......... use VERY LITTLE product. The less you use the better the results. Then follow up with a 2nd coat, and you are set.

2 last tips.

#1 lighting........ get 2 $10 halogen lights at lowes or home depot. Proper lighting will allow you to see things you never knew were there.

#2 Towells. Don't skimp. Terry cloth and diapers suck. Show cars won't use them and for good reason. Microfiber, and then only the best tightest twill. I see autogeek is a sponser here. Give them a call. You get what you pay for. Once you own 8-10 HIGH QUALITY detail towells, never, never,never,never, never us them for ANYTHING other then detailng your car. Good towells are very costly, don't fruck them up by cleaning up some crap on the work bench.

If money allows a porter cable random, is the cats @ss, and will produce show quality shines.

 

Where do u get good microfiber cloths? I've been lookin to get some but i dunno who has good stuff. I saw them at autozone, but i dunno about the quality.

 

I am sure the ones at the auto parts store are BETTER then what you have used in the past. Walmart also sells them.

ANY microfiber is better then terry cloth or diapers.

But just like anything else you do get what you pay for. I suggest you look at autogeek,they are a forum sponser of about every car site there is (including this one). They sell many nice products.

 

Wow, a thread from the dead.

I have a big pack of microfiber towels from the automotive department at Target. They're better than the ones from Wal-Mart, which were kinda thin and cheesy.
