Default anyone have DIY for runningboard?

I was looking for a running board for my mom's 2003 explorer for Christmas because she has a bad hip, but i underestimated how expensive they are. I couldnt find anything for under 100 and those looked like crap.

Anyone have a DIY for a running board? Would all SUV's come with a spot to mount them, or would I prolly have to drill holes?

you can probably rig one up if you know how to weld. just get metal tubes to build the frame for it, weld some support beams in it, then just tack on some sheet metal or diamond plate, idk how advanced you want to get it. i would just check out craigslist or ebay, look for a similar suv with one thats for sale and ask if you can buy the runningboards off of it.

98% of the trucks/suvs come mounting locations for them
the ones that dont u just have to use self-tapping screws its not that hard at all

why not check your local junk yards for some OEM running boards?
