Default Bad gas

After A recent trip to the states I was shocked to find that there was no petrol (gas) that I could find over 93 RON with the regular being 87 RON, thats well low, over in the Uk we have a minimum of 95 RON which is the lowest honda states for use in the civic, but I use 98 RON shell optimax cos I treat my baby good! reckon id be gettin through A fair bit of octane booster if I lived over your way.

It doesnt really matter what octane you run unless the vehicle requires it. It does nothing different for you car at all. Now unless you have some mods on your car and it runs rich... then yes you need to go up some octane. I have to run plus now (90-91) because of some of the mods on my car.

most u.s. built cars run 87 octane [:@] due to smog & pollution control & lower compression ratio---thats why uk & jp cars - imported - are so sought after here

Yea, but if they run a higher compression and brought to the states it doesnt matter. From what I understand you gotta make the car meet smog test if its gonna be an import.

thats only if you import the car with the intention of registering it...if you were building a track only car and had it shipped here, it wouldnt be an issue...but im not sure if companies like MotoRex allow that

I also read somewhere that the engine manament systems are set differently, I know that jap civics are given more bhp than there uk equivalent cos they use better fuel so the ecu is set to release that power without fear of damaging the engine. the jap equivalent of my esi has an extra 4-5 horses!

well, from what i understand, it is all due to local emissions/pollution restrictions...

wait wait wait wait. RON is Research Only Number or something like that. in the US we use R+M/2 which ends up as about 2-3% lower than RON, even though the gas is the same. so 92-93 US octane is about 94-96 octane elsewhere.

Jesus Sac. Sometimes I swear you should be one of those squint eyed japs in a white scientist coat with a clip board hiding in a secret Honda facility of Japan.
