Gas latch for gas tank door?

Hello,
I'm having a problem with my gas tank latch, the lever you push down on to open up the gastank door. i was wondering if anyone knew how i could fix that or how much it would cost me to get it fixed?

what year and model.
does it feel like there is nothing connected to it, or does it seems normal, and just does not open the little door.
