Default Installing a door latch?

Hi all. I'm new here, just bought an 89' Civic DX 3 door. Anyways what I want to know is how to install the door latch mechanism as well as the handle. The guy I bought it off of had removed the latch after it broke, ordered a new one then couldn't figure out how to put it all back together. So for whatever reason he took the handle off. I have all the parts for it from what he says, now I just need to find out how to put it back on.

Thanks all.

wow haven't heard one of these in awhile. I can give you my limited knowledge cuz i have a 95 civic sedan. But on my car i had to take the inside door panel off. Peal the clear paper off. Then i unconnected the door latch from the door. I then unhooked it from the main rod that works with the lock. I had to spin it around i think to unscrew it. Then i had to take off the lock put it on the new one and reverse instructions. Don't forget to pop the latch into the hole its suppose to go into 2. You will know when you see it. Make sure its fully in. Then put everything back together and vwalla.

O P.S.- Be careful with the lock because the side pins will fall out and they are a b**ch to get back in

Thanks. My main problem is that I wasn't the one that took the old one out. The guy I bought it from did. So I have no clue where anything goes. I'm planning on trying to fix it tomorrow since I have the day off. And from what I can tell the new latch is complete lock and all. looks like it came off a power lock car due to the wires on it, but they were cut and everything else looks the same. I guess if all else fails I could take the passengers side door panel off and see how that ones hooked up. Hopefully i won't need to do that though.

The '88 Civic door diagrams here and in my next post might help you.

Yeah I've come to the conclusion that I think I needa new door. It apears that when the old latch failed and the wind caught it(owner told me this) there was body damage done, apparently enough to knock the door out of whack. I had the new latch put in, but no matter how hard I seemed to slam the door it wouldn't close far enough to trip the latch. I think I'm taking the car to honda to havea seat belt latch replaced so i might ask about the door thing as well as some other issues.
