I think cats can survive long falls but not short ones or something like that because of how they can spread themselves out and act like a parachute. Pretty sure I've heard soemthing like that.

Oh, and cats are one of the only things that can move their center of gravity outside their body. Take your cat, hole it upside about 5-6 inches off the ground and drop it, it'll still land on it's feet... it's awesome. (I love animals, don't b**ch at me.)
