You should say that at least your company didnt make the Beetle! That'll get him.
I happen to like the old school Bettle/Bug, there is alot of ability right out of the box and damn are they light. My dad has one and I take it driving around every now and then.

OK, which specific models are you talking about? also, if you have ever driven a car where the reverse is close to 1st, you would know that it's nearly impossible to get them confused. In vw/audi, you have to push down with a decent force to be able to sgift into reverse. In bmw, you have to apply some forse and push the lever all the way to the left, whereas no force is needed to shift into 1st

The 73 Bug dad has the shifter has a 'T' thingy you pull up on to be able to put it in reverse.

ask him why VW has to turbo a 3.2L to make 280+ HP. ask how many good handling roadsters VW has. ask how many VWs have been rated as best handling FWD cars. ask how many stock VWs hang with any Ferrari.

as for your thread title, you really can't compare the Civic with the whole VW line.

You do know that VW owns Bently(fastest stock sedan in the world), they also own Porsche (911 GTR). I am by no means a VW fan but I am a educated person also so I know that VW has it's fair share of monsters.

VW engineers have absolutely no part in engineering or designing anything Bentley or Porsche has. they're totally different beasts. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a Volkswagon 911 or Volkswagon Carrera GT...nor have I ever heard a Porsche owner refer to their car as a Volkswagon. even in Germany, Porsche is a seperate company from VW.

Why is it that Bentley's engines are made by VW then? Why is it that a older 911 is sitting on the same chassis of a VW Bettle? VW owns and operates alot more than people know of.

VW can make whatever they want for Bentley, but it's not engineered by VW. you're talking about the older 911... again, VW can build stuff and share some parts with Porsche, but VW doesn't engineer or design the initial Porsche vehicle.

But what you dont understand is that being VW owns them companies it has all of their spec/tech sheets and info, they pull parts, designs, manufactoring process's, and other things that make a auto company. Kinda like how Saturns get the ECO-TECH, like early 90's Ford Probe GT's where re-skinned Mazda's, and the Saab 9X or whatever is a WRX with a different body.

no, I fully understand what you're trying to say. what you don't understand is that while VW has financial ties and shares parts with Bentley and Porsche, VW has no part in designing or building those cars. there is no recent Porsche that equates to a VW. they're totally different cars. you can't compare the american car companies to VW and Porsche simply because there are only 3 real US companies. GM, Ford, and Dodge all have side companies while they share parts with other companies.

example #1- Ford owns part of Mazda. they share chassis', engines, and other things. Mazda is still a separate entity from Ford though. Ford had absolutely nothing to do with Mazda's RX-7 or RX-8. if either Ford or Mazda goes under, whichever of them is still in business isn't going to really worry about it. however, they both have financial ties, so they want to see eachother succeed.

while VW owns Porsche, Porsche is a separate entity from VW. if VW goes under, Porsche still has their own engineering and design team and they generate enough profit to keep them going. more profit for Porsche means more profit for VW. therefore VW is going to supply Porsche with whatever they need from them.
