There was something I COULD have done, but it would have caused way more problems than the little bump involved in the accident

So, no, there was nothing rational I could do
Yeah, those things happen, when you have to decide which evil is bigger, I know what you are talking about. Tough call usually [:@]
Definitely. I saw him creeping up in my rearview, and laid on the horn, but apparently he didnt think it was directed at him. For me the choice was either let him hit me, or pull out onto one of the top 5 busiest streets in Grand Rapids. I choose the rear ending

i've been driving almost 20 years and I've never had an accident.

so the answer is "YES" i could have avoided my last accident... or maybe that was "NO" since I've never had one?

i'm sure I'll have one eventually. the law of averages says so.

That's amasing! If you made it that far, there is a good chance you will stay accident virgin for the rest of your life

Try someone running a red light and getting t-boned, cuz thats how i got in my last accident. Luckily, guy was driving a corolla and i was in my then f-150. (first car only had for like a year). Kinda lucky cuz i had been looking to sell it and since it was his fault, the insurance company totaled the vehicle, paid me a decent check, and thats how i ended up with my civic .

Rear ended at a stop light. I was pissed but did manage to laugh for a second when I realized the woman who rear ended me must have been putting on lip stick cause she had lip stick spread from the corner of her mouth half way to her F***ing ear.

So, there were no votes here for quite some time and I think we can consider this poll closed.

What did we get out of it? Well, it is a definite improvement in terms of believability comparing to the previous one. I think re-phrasing the questions helped here.

At the first glance results look perfect – every driver guilty of an accident is matched with an innocent victim. Let’s try to give it a thought, though, and to see how those things happen in real life.

Every accident involving two or more drivers has at least one driver who caused it. AT LEAST. Means in some cases two or more drivers did contribute to the accident. Not necessarily guilty officially or technically, but did something that helped accident to happen. Or could be plain guilty both, like when one of them turn to the main road without yielding, and the other drives on this road 50 mph above limit. How many such cases do we have? In my experience, the majority of accidents are of “more than one contributed” type.

Now, we did not cover another big category of accidents – when only one driver is involved. Granted, sometimes there are natural disasters that are guilty in this, but the majorityof those accidentsis caused by a driver choosing wrong speed and loosing control over his car as a result. This adds to the number of drivers that could have avoided an accident if they behaved differently…

If you add up all of these, you can see that there should be more drivers who could do something to prevent an accident than those who could not. I do not have hardcore statistics on that, but based on the logic above I would expect the number of unavoidable cases to be at least two times lower than the number of avoidable ones.

Then,if the numbers in this poll differ significantly from what we just discussed, what the hell it means and why should anyone care? Easy - not all the people around here realize they could have avoided accidents if they had behaved differently. If those people understand this, they can avoid some future accidents!

Have had my close calls, but no accidents yet. When I say close calls I mean CLOSE, nothing like getting cut off doing 75mph, locking the tires, and sliding sideways.[&:]
I would beat some serious *** especially if it caused an accident and down here in northern va, it would for sure. Best believe id drag someone out of their car by the troat and string em to a local sapling by their dick.

But on anyther note, my accident couldve been avoided had I not had my girlfriend(at the time) in the car with me(best friend also in car but not pertinent). I wouldve still been in nebraska had it not been for her. I left her because of that accident and the three days preceding it. She was bitchin at me to take her home, so I was taking her back, pist as hell cause I found out she cheated on me IN MY HOUSE. She lived with her parents and I had my own place. I asked her if she would watch it while I was in nebraska. So I get back to Alaska, and Im taking her home after I get back, an she starts bitchin at ME saying it was my fault cause I cheated on HER...The truth on that eventually came out. I didnt cheat on her and the girl who said i did was lying and accordingly got her *** kicked by my ex. LAWL
Back to topic. I was driving on trunk road which is rated for 35mph i believe, and i was doing around 60 because i wanted to get this girl out of my car, and i went into a 90 degree corner doin bout 60 and i ripped the wheel hard right to go into it and then slammed the brake to throw weight to the front. Doing this, I assumed, would get the weight transfer to push the front of the car into deepest part of the corner. The rear, i figured, would lighten up and cause it to slide out. Well, for those of you have heard of a pipe dream, this was a FnF dream...
As I ripped the wheels hard right, the car travelled straight. **** too fast, too much understeer..
NEXT!!! E-BRAKE *snorts* yea right dude.
NEEXT!! DEPRESS BRAKE! (in the back of the car: OH ****!!!) Still havin a no go.
NEEXXT!! HARD RIGHT + FULL GAS(front wheel might pull me right? never made it that far) OH NOOOEEESSSS!!! ZEE OHH EMM GEE!!!!WHAM...
Straight into an 89 GMC Jimmy and a gaurdrail. *sighs*

That was my first and last accident. I realized at that moment i couldnt stay with this girl because i put my life, my best friends life, and her life in danger and my life is worth more than any relationship especially that one, so why is 3?? Had it not been for seatbelts one of us wouldve gone through the windshield.
So, had i of never met her, i never would have had my accident. Its her fault, blame the woman. Jus joshin. If i wouldve slowed down, been calmer, stayed in nebraska and had my man kick her out of my house whatever, i couldve handled things so much better. Oh well...at least i learned right?

Pic of mazda after accident. It was taken on my cell phone by my brother the day after. I was still in the hospital. Unfortunately i dont have any more pics(unless my wife kept another one in her email). Although i can say that you never forget the screams, twising metal, airbags, or that loud BLAM when you first make contact. Or the smell...thats the first that that hit me. the smell...leaking coolants all over a hot engine = pungent smell. ish..
